The Orient Captain FTT11003W Has Set Sail!

FTT11003W0 Captain.Still013If you’re a fan of last year’s Orient Captain Chronograph FTT11002B, you’ll absolutely love today’s release, the Orient Captain Chronograph FTT11003W in white. And while the differences are purely aesthetic, we feel that a there’s enough to talk about for a review. And that’s actually saying a lot.

Yes, the key difference lies in the fact that the dial of the TT11003W is white, as opposed to black. However, there are little details that make this watch extraordinary. It all starts with the base color of the dial, which is actually metallic white and features a rich sun burst effect. The sub dials for the seconds and chronograph seem to be stamped or ingrained into the dial with a pearl finish. The Captain’s sub dials also display a sun burst styling, similar to the rest of the dial. The tachymeter chapter ring is a bit metallic in color as well, and the culmination of all these effects make the watch glimmer at all angles. This is not common for sport watches (and there aren’t many white automatic sport watches that exist, either). In addition to all the black text, the lumed hour markers are outlined in black in order to enhance visibility. The unidirectional bezel features a high gloss insert with silver accents that matches the stainless steel color. The bezel pip at the top is also fairly large, which plays to the size proportion to the piece as a whole.

The overall feel of the watch suggests that this watch is very well built. It’s got a full stainless steel construction—from the case to the bracelet to the bezel. The case is large and measures at 45mm across and is 11.60mm thick. The thickness is a testament to the Captain Chronograph’s beefiness—mechanical watches are usually in the ball park of 11.60mm because their movements are larger than quartz’. The case is rated for 200m water resistance which is enforced by the signed, screwed down crown. The included oyster style bracelet with safety clasp reminds us that this is a sports watch at heart.

The Orient Captain Chronograph is priced at $365 but is available at the introductory price of $215 after using code ‘setsail’ at check out. Please note that this deal is only good until 11:59 PM PST server time on Friday, January 24, 2014.
