The Orient Star Standard-Date DV02001W

To follow in the footsteps of the two toned Orient Star Retrograde that was released last week, here is the two toned Standard-Date (DV020001W). Similar to the other white model, it features a stamped stripe design on the dial. However, the gold styling is a totally different story.

The main focus of the two toned Standard-Date is definitely the gold accent. Against the DV02003W, the gold tone version has elegant gold bar indices and hands. Matched with the striped pattern on the dial, the watch is absolutely handsome. The case is mostly polished stainless steel with brushed sides. The crown is gold tone and bears the Orient Star logo stamp. As with the rest of the Orient Star Standard-Date line, the watch is 40mm in diameter, 11.6mm thick, and has 22mm lugs. It features an exhibition case back that houses one of the newest calibers, the 40751 movement. This movement is self-winding, hand-windable, and features the highly coveted hacking function that allows synchronization for higher accuracy. As mentioned in the last review for the DV02003W, the Standard-Date series is the first to employ Orient’s Super Anti-Reflective Coating. What does this mean? Anti-reflective (AR) coating is applied to both surfaces in order to suppress reflection by 99%, which paves the way for superb visibility. The multi-layer coating on the crystal improves the scratch resistance, more so than conventional coating. Lastly, SAR Coating includes stain-proof coating, which increases the water repellant level as well as stain resistance.

In all, the two toned Standard Date is the complete package, especially a good recommendation for someone looking for a gold piece. Any watch with gold nowadays runs of the risk of looking gaudy – however Orient executed this piece beautifully, and at $965 MSRP ($675 after using promo code 'spring2013'), it definitely comes at an outstanding value.
