New from Orient Star is the Orient Star Classic series. At first glance, it will definitely be the subject of comparisons against the popular Bambino and famed 60th anniversary model. And while the Classic does take some design cues from its predecessors, make no mistake: this is undoubtedly a truly classic timepiece with a timeless design.
The EL05003W is simple yet elegant in design. By proudly utilizing the bold color contrast, the piece is launched into the 21st century with its distinctively blue hands. The dial features polished stainless steel bar indexes that are accompanied by black minute marks. The date is positioned at the three o’clock with the power reserve at the twelve o’clock. The crystal is domed to the similar extent to the Bambino and 60th anniversary.
The case is measured at 38.5mm, which preserves the classic motif of the watch. It is 13.10mm thick and the lug to lug length is approximately 44mm. The case material is made of a rich, full polished stainless steel throughout and a nice bonus feature is that the lugs are drilled in. An exciting feature of the new Orient Star Classic is the inclusion of a stainless steel bracelet, something the Bambino and 60th anniversary lack. The bracelet is oyster styled and features a tasteful mix of polished and brushed stainless steel. The bracelet is topped off with a double push button clasp that bears the Orient Star logo. The movement used in the Orient Star Classic is the caliber 40N52 which is of course made in house and is fully self-winding, hand-winding and hacking. The movement, which bears the special Orient Star oscillating weight, can be seen through the exhibition case back.
This particular Orient Star Classic (EL05003W) retails at $690, which comes to about $480 after using code ‘spring2013’ at check out. And at that price and considering the quality craftsmanship in this Orient Star, it is one heck of a piece, and one that should be very popular for new grads as well as a fantastic gift for this coming Father’s Day.
