Say Hello to the 2nd Generation Defender!

When we think about the Defender series, we see a sporty, well-specced piece that is as reliable as it is useful. It merges uniform design with practical functionality. It is the kind of rugged watch that we’d want on our wrist if we went off the grid. We’re here to report that it’s getting better: after six years of service, the original Defender is being upgraded to its second generation.

Sure, the 2nd Generation Defender has followed in the footsteps of our other collections and has received an upgraded mechanical movement. But that’s not all that’s new. While the complications have remained the same, the layout and presentation of the dial have been shuffled. Essentially, the weekly and 24-hour sub-dials have swapped positions and sizing. The date has moved to the three o’clock position. The logo is on the opposite side and all the hands have been swapped, highlighted with a hint of red in some areas. The shape of the hour markers have relatively stayed the same and the outer ring still features a 60 second/minute marker. At first glance, this is still the Defender from yesterday, but up close, it’s received a slightly new look.

The fully brushed case has been upped by a mere 0.4mm from 42mm and the off-set crown has been kicked up to the three o’clock position. Design-wise, the case structure has stayed the same, and it still sports 100m water resistance and a screwed-down crown. As mentioned, the 2nd generation Defender has been upgraded to the Orient caliber F6B22, a 22-jeweled automatic, hand-winding, and hacking mechanical movement

The new Defender line up has been expanded to consist of five distinct pieces, all of which were made in a different dial color (blue, green, grey, black, and khaki). They will be equipped with a stainless steel bracelet, leather, or nylon strap, which is a first for our US collection.
