Orient Watch Partners with Amazon, Focuses on Online Marketing
Los Angeles, CA – February 10, 2009 – Orient Watch has partnered with Amazon to sell its watches online. To commemorate the deal, Japan’s largest producer of mechanical timepieces has released its first US special-edition model, a 200M automatic professional diver with an “Amazon-yellow” dial. Selling for $179.99, the “CEM65001YW” will be available only at Amazon.com. The exclusive model fits neatly into a creative American roll-out strategy that includes partnerships with bloggers, free giveaways, and a focus on online sales. In addition, the brand launched http://www.orientwatchusa.com, a website that, unlike other watch sites, allows visitors to view individual models and link to corresponding Amazon product pages. Plans for an interactive forum, as well as direct Orient-to-consumer web sales, are also in the works. “We are approaching this launch from a non-traditional standpoint,” said Mark Kim, Orient’s Director of North American Sales. “Especially given the current economic climate, standard brick-and-mortar strategies and advertising campaigns just don’t cut it. We’re looking online.”
